Does anyone know how to take one of these darn things apart? I've tried using the directions for disassembly for the Model 400 but it doesn't appear that they are exactly the same. Any assistance would be appreciated....

DISASSEMBLY
(These procedures apply to Models 300 and 600, too.)
With the hammer down and the magazine removed, apply the tip of the magazine floorplate to the thin barrel collar just aft of the muzzle (1). With the collar fully depressed, rotate the knurled barrel bushing lock in either direction until the collar is retained in the depressed position (2).
This next step is the most difficult of all. It releases the very heavily compressed spring. Chances are you may lose it so hang on for dear life and point the barrel in a safe direction, preferably at a soft chair. Rotate the knurled bushing lock approximately another 1/4 turn which will unlock this part from the slide and permit the bushing, barrel collar and the heavily compressed spring to shoot out of the slide (3). And I mean shoot! Wear safety glasses.
Pull the slide back while pushing up on the safety catch until the catch engages the slide (4). Rotate the barrel clockwise until its lugs are free of the frame (5). Release the safety catch and pull the barrel and slide from the frame (6). Remove the barrel from the slide (7).
Note the internal hammer at the rear of the frame and the barrel lug recesses (8). The Model 400 is now fieldstripped (9).
ASSEMBLE IN REVERSE ORDER
HINT NO. 1: Insert the barrel into the slide before installing the slide on the frame. When doing so, rotate the locking lugs into the milled-out slot on the inner side of the slide so you can position the lugs over their recesses. Then turn the barrel, which locks the barrel lugs into the locking recesses of the frame.
HINT NO. 2: When pushing down on the barrel bushing and barrel collar to lock the spring into the slide. make sure the lugs on the barrel bushing and collar are not engaged. This is counterintuitive, but if they are fitted neatly together going in, you will not be able to turn the barrel bushing and lock the collar in place.
This sounds right for the 400 and they say it should work for the 300 , maybe you are missing something. I am not at home thus cannot look at my 400, they are a little tricky though. Maybe some one else has an idea.

It should be the same for all three models, 300 - 400- 600. The above link has some illustrations in it It can be taken down Okies way or this other way, they both work. I remove the spring first when I do a takedown of my 600, but not for any special reason. You can use anything to push the bushing down, including the mag base lip. It's stiff but not impossible. Heed Okies warnings.

The barrel bushing and nut took off like it had been shot out of a cannon. Narrowly missed my monitor and put a deep scratch in the paneling of the computer room. With any luck, I'll get it covered up before the wife sees it.
The Astra 300 is cleaned, but I don't have it back together yet. Enough excitement for one night. Safety-glasses? One needs body-armor to play with these things!
Thanks guys! :lol2:

Oilhead, I think I used the instructions that called for the removal of the spring too. I dont remember shooting the bushing and nut across the room. I sill need to find some ammo for my 400 though.

Where did you get the 300? Is it .32 or .380? They rarely show up for sale in the US.

With Waffenampts. I bought it from a guy in a bar for $200. I wasn't in there drinkin', you understand, I just needed to use the bathroom.

I about lost my bushing and nut when they flew off my 600 while trying to reassemble it. The spring on the 600 is very strong due to the pistol being a blowback 9mm. Safety glasses are a good idea.
