    Winchester rifle ammo

A local place has Winchester ammo for a good price. Has anyone used 308 Win (7.62x51mm) 147gr FMJBT? Any reports?

That's about as good as it gets for NATO spec ammo. You can reload it. Years ago we only shot Winchester white box around here, didn't have an ample supply of surplus or the internet. I saw some a couple weeks ago and had already spent my allowance. It was 13.97 a box.

good stuff, consistant, cleaner than South African.
There is always room for another AK or 1911.

As with anything car or gun related, your results may vary!

Waaaaaay cleaner than SA! The best I've seen price wise is 14.00 a box, It's pretty good and as already stated reloadable.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself!

Thanks for the added info texlurch & Schultz. Looks like I posted just about the same time you did texlurch, or I would have thanked you earlier.

I was looking around to fill my 308 stock and couldn't find anything online less than .75/round. Then I just happened to call a little local shop and they had 200/round cases for $129. At $.645/round, I decided I couldn't pass it up.

    Winchester NATO ammo

I have used Winchester NATO and it is the best. I bought 100 rounds at $13.95 per box of twenty. It is my main source for good reloadable brass and that is why I bought some. I have about 1,500 rounds of surplus (mostly Aussie, SA, and Santa Barbara). I am saving my surplus for a rainey day and I fire reloads regularly.

I have also used some of the boxer primed "GGG" headstamped stuff (Lithuanian I think) and I have reloaded it as well. The primers seated a little deep in the Lithuanian ammo that I reloaded but it fired just fine anyway.

The Winchester NATO ammo is produced in seasonal runs by Winchester, so when it runs out it will be a while before more is available. Therefore, if you want some I would buy it now.

There is Radway, German, and some Port floating around on the e-net at decent (for the current meaning of decent) prices..

Those are all reputed to be pretty decent rounds. Is there a hierarchy of which ones are better than others? I've heard alot about the Port, little less about the Radway Green, but not heard too much about the German. (DAG or MEN headstamp?) I am a huge fan of the Lithuanian (GGG headstamp) ammo. Wish there was more of that floating around.

    Oops, sorry for going off-topic....

I have shot some of the Winchester NATO, and it is good stuff. I am just trying to fill my stockpile with some good stuff at a little cheaper than what the Winchester NATO is going for right now..

IMHO Radway Green rivals the Winchester stuff. As far as quality goes!

And BTW, if you shoot much of that Winchester do me/us a favor. Either get into reloading or save the brass for ME! Seriously, it is reloadable and it's a shame to let it go to waste! Post it in the FOR SALE section. It won't make you rich but this board is all about helping each other out.
