    universal carbine front sight

    Hello,
A buddy of mine got a Universal carbine from his dad, We took it to the range today and with the rear sight set at its lowest position was still about 5" high @ 50yds (aiming the rifle at a 6:00 hold). I see that the front sight of a U.S. M1 carbine is not compatible with the Universal. What can I do to get the POI down. Did Universal make front sights with different blade heights? Anybody run into an issue like this before? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It may just be that your gun is set up to "lolly-pop" the target. I don't know much about M1 Carbines though. Are you covering the target with the front sight, or placing it at 6 o'clock on the target? Most military rifles are made to aim at 6 o'clock so you don't cover your target.

I'm holding the front sight at 6:00 on the black. An old habit from my Highpower shooting days....You're right, most military rifles are made to aim at the target @ 6:00.

........ I'm out of ideas then. My lack of knowledge on carbines is holding me back. I think if it were me, I'd probably get GHETTO with it and blob some JB weld on there and file it to a nice shape that looks factory, then file it down as needed to hit the right elevation.

    Numrich has two listings: http://e-gunparts.com/productschem.a...0zM1%20CARBINE
However odds are they're similar, It also has three listings for rear sights too.

The first setting of the rear sight is 100 or 150 yards, that's probably why your high at 50. It is meant to hit a man size target.

    what WBC said...

run it out to 100+ yds, and see where the POI becomes the same as POA.

5" hight at 50yds is still minute-of-badguy. And that little carbine bullet prolly drops faster than a 762x25 rd.
