Center it both on the rib down the center line of the top of the receiver, and the scope mount cut on the center line of the rear scope mount lugs. Tack weld right front then left rear then left front and right rear, check to make sure it didn't move and weld it on. Keep your heat down as much as possible and use a heat sink underneath. I used the laser to rough set my front triple frame after I welded on the rear site. It worked well enough for me that I didn't need to move anythng on my first trip to the test range.

From the back edge of the receiver, 27 mm, or 1.063 inches to the back of the sight base.

Well there now.... you have two differing opinions.... I thought the rear sight base notch was supposed to be directly over the scope mount lugs on the side of the receiver.... I hadn't heard of the measurement before. By my theory the site base is 35 mm from the rear of the receiver.

Still, haven't found them. That measurement was off the receiver stub of a G3 kit I have. I think I might have taken them to work, because I sure can't find them here at home. I tore my home office up looking for them.

I just about stroked out,,,,thought maybe I had welded mine on in the wrong spot. If mine were 27mm from the rear of the receiver they would just about be touching the stock mount. In looking at the G3's around... the notch in the G3 base is centered above the lug on the receiver, and the rear of the sight base is around about 1/2 inch in front of the stock mounting??? I'm wondering what's up there Smokehouse?? We gotta get this resolved before I can go to sleep.....

OH Crap, you're right, I just looked and the stub I picked out of the box was from my HK33 kit, it is 27mm. I just measured my G3 Stub and it is right at 35mm, my PTR receiver is 34.85mm. Sorry, I need to pay more attention to what I am looking at. 2 stock holes in the G3, 1 stock hole in HK33!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!,,,, I was kicking gravel and headed for the cut off grinder....But I also looked in the G3 armorers manual and in order for the claw mount to work properly, (if you were ever inclined to use one) the notch in the sight base is centered over the rear lug. And that accidentally put mine at 35mm +/-. I can sleep now, as soon as the adrenaline goes away...

If it helps, the CETME rear sight base is 27 mm., measuring on my CAI cast receiver.
