Anyone Have an NRA Credit Card?

    Just a warning:

I've had a VISA account obtained thru NRA for several years. The issuing bank is First National Bank Omaha. I assume the NRA gets a cut. The reason I opened the account was the incentive of getting a great deal on a Life Membership.

The interest rate has been a bit too high, but I've ignored it because I don't usually run a balance month to month--until the past 6 months anyway. And anyway I figured some of it is going to fund NRA activities,

I pay my bill online, generally a day or two before the due date.

Last month I paid one day late. Just caught up in working a lot of extra shifts, etc. Figured I would get stuck with a late charge, which I should.

BUT the bastages jacked my interest rate to 21.99%. WTF?

It already was 17.99%, and with the prime rate so low for the past couple of years, they must be making a killing.

Not off me anymore. I figure my own bank might open a card account for me, and let me transfer the balance. And I think I'll tell the NRA about this rip-off too.

    Anyone else run into this?

Can and bitch. For one day late, they'll drop your rate back to normal. I would guarantee it in the past, but since the big bank meltdown, it's may be a little more difficult. Never hurts to push for it.

I wouldn't say that is exclusive to the NRA cards, either. That's a universal problem, these days. The banks want more and more and more. Dem gies is joiks.

    Agreed. Bankers, brokers, lawyers, politicians.

This very sort of BS is what convinced A LOT of people to come out of the Dark Ages, and start banking online.... People would snail-mail their checks to the CC company X days ahead of time, as usual, and, WHOOOOOPS! It "arrived" late, I guess the "arrival" is whenever they say that it got there, because nobody can say otherwise. And, just like you, UP goes the rate.

You're right. I stopped at my bank yesterday and picked up an application.

    Bye-bye, rip off card.

Three years ago I read Dave Ramsey's book about personal finance, and decided I would pay off all my credit cards and never use one again.

Best damn decision I ever made. For a while now I'm credit-card debt free.
If I do use one of my few cards that I have left, I'll pay it off in full the same day, or the next day.
