    My circa 1835 Pepperbox.....

Here's something you don't see folks whip out at the range often,an original 1830's Allen&Thurber 6 shot .31 cal "pepperbox" pistol! I got this in trade for helping a friend r-n-r some old family heirloom BP guns he had inherited, and needed to sell off for home funds. And yes,I have shot it,albeit only twice and light loads at that. The bores are actually in fair shape, and the cast-in-place nipples are in good order, which is important as they can't be replaced due to the integral design, kinda a shortcoming of these guns.
It still was state of the art for it's day,a double action compact 6 shot repeater introduced shortly after the flintlock era,and 30 years before the Civil War. They had a nasty habit of chain-firing all 6 barrels, thus I doubt I'll be loading this old girl full house. I pretty much just keep it displayed in a shadow box on the wall. I always thought these were the inspiration to the Gatling gun...

I like the BP pistols! That's a nice one and a good snag.
It always looks darkest.....just before it goes totally black.

I would imagine that Artemis on the Wild Wild West would have added a watch spring to it and used it as a hand held Gatling mini-gun... As it's a very articulate double action only mech. with a decent trigger pull,it was quite ahead of it's time during the era of the Alamo/Mexican wars, ect.,even Col. Colt could only produce single action through the 1870s... If they'da just made it in .36 and shortened the barrels a tad and added a fixed 5" or so barrel on top dead center,uh,well actually a Scotsman did that in the 1850s,but it never caught on here, thus leading to the Brit Adams and eventually Webley DA revolvers of the 1870s.
