    Considering a trade. Would you?

I really want a 1911 and right now the only way I can get one is to make a trade. I have found a 1911A1 built on an Essex frame (complete with a lanyard ring), a German slide, and a new parkerizing job. I am told that it shoots very good. I haven't seen it yet, but maybe today. I am considering trading my 6 1/2" Ruger Blackhawk .357mag for it. Would it be a fair trade if the Essex is in good shape? I have heard/read both good, bad, and ugly about Essex frames. The German slide is still of unknown mfgr. The guy says it is definitly German markings though, but not NAZI. How about some feedback and opinions?

I think planning is right , sounds like it's just a part gun of unknown quality. I wouldn't trade if it was me. Semper Fi

parts gun for a factory gun, i wouldn't do it. you could probably sell your black hawk and buy a ria 1911.

I agree with tump. And you won't regret getting the RIA.

Usually a 1911 built on an Essex frame is not the most desired combonation. With out going into detail, Essex frames have required alot of extra work to fit pins and the slide. Bubba work on a fine weapon like the 1911 really devalues it. I would hold the .357.

No I wouldn't trade either. Like others have said there are many better alternatives out there. I would save my pennies and look at the RIA or Springfields GI model.
