    Dad's old garand restoration and accurizing project

    This is why i would never ever use spray paint on my dads old rifle im restoreing, only takes time and elbow grease. Gas cylinder gauges damn near perfect. and hows that for a 70 + yr old gas tube and bolt ,why i had no plans on parkerizing stainless steel parts ,before and after polishing.005.jpg007.jpg008.jpg

    002.jpg003.jpgstock is boyds replacement drop in , only the beginning , front fore arm peice is how it came from boyds, im using danish oil to get a perfect colored finish for me.

    009.jpg010.jpg011.jpg wow ,is that a nice looking bolt or what?No not done yet will be better when done. and here is my receiver, no im not done yet, halfway, when done i will have damn near as it came,decided against reparkerizing,dad came to me in sleep and said do not be lazy , i taught you better son, do my rifle right, i have to go with dads wishes's.Gonna strip off rear sight peices now and make em like new myself.

    Almost done with stock now we bed the action and barrel channel with acuglass.,this rifle was still a tack driver as was can not wait to post groupings after im done.With my match grade handloads should drive nails.As i said before please wait till im done before picking at my work, i am no shade tree refinisher.I do not use oven spray paint or anything cheesy on any old rifle i restore.

    Dad's old grand finnally ready for range pics.

    Here she is sitting next to my other fave toy my 76 el camino i restored about 4 yrs ago, grain looks awesome in sunlight.006.jpg005.jpg004.jpg002.jpg001.jpg I am shocked at what a difference a little tlc makes on old machinery made in the good old usa two fine examples of american engineering.could have spelled garand right on thread name lol.oops.

    And here is his original grenade launcher sights. Said he never had a chance to even use them.but carried them in case in his pack..007.jpg008.jpg

    Very nice, take her out and see what she can do. Waiting for the range report. Never seen grenade sights, thanks for the photo. Is that the original case and instructions?

    Yep way dad got em as issued he never used it he said. Never had the time to mount it and they had grenadiers.here is the back of original instructions for useing ranging marks on stock and009.jpg grenade sights.
