    oops

I saw a special about this on tv last year, I think on Discovery or the Military Channel. So if it was without the triggering device what was the feal of a "massive" explosion al about? Things that make you say hmmmm!

Many years ago, at a lodge meeting, I met a guy involved in this. I'm not sure his exact involvement but he claimed a nuclear bomb was off the coast of Tybee Island (near Savannah). I took it with a grain of salt like so many other "war stories" we prior service guys tell. I saw that special on Discovery or History channel and was amazed that it was true.
It always looks darkest.....just before it goes totally black.

To be clear, there are more Broken Arrows out there. I know of three different incidents other than this one. We got training on the whys and hows and wheres when I was working with " Special Weapons". The more scarry thing is to hear about Bent Sword incidents. Nothing like hearing about the warhead that was dropped 20ft on the nose 1/4 mi from you last week!

I remember a little about that incident from a "C" school I went to in the early 60's in Key West. Specials were always one point safe, with a serious drop one could maybe have a HE explosion or low order detination but not likely; although, I would hate to be the EOD and clean up crew if the pieces were laying all over the pier. I have been throught enough of the NTPI's/NWAI's in the 22 years of being a weaponeer to know that the clean up drills after a drop are serious.
