    Grid down test

Has anyone heard about this power grid test that is supposed to happen on November 13-14? I have seen little clips about it here and there, but not sure if it is Bravo Sierra. Maybe somebody could confirm or debunk this.

Nothing yet? Maybe it is a regional test as the last I checked we don't have a real nationwide power grid, just regional grids. IIRC Texas refuses to connect to anything outside the state, as crossing the state line would give the
feds control over all of their electrical power. Interstate Commerce Act, got to love it.

Thanks Buckshot. I just don't want any of my home appliances or electronics getting cooked by power surges.

It appears to be just a simulation for those companies that want to test their systems and how they would handle a real crisis. I did not see where it says it is a nationwide manatory
drill, nor will power be turned off anywhere. Many electric companies have agreements to share resources in a crisis. About three years ago we had a massive widespread icestorm in
this area that took down trees and power line everywhere. I was out of power for 8 days. I talked to one of the out of state crews working on the lines and they didn't even know
where they were, or the town's name. They said they came in a night, were handed a GPS map of a route to repair and were told to start at one end and work their way to the other.
I was glad they were here to help. I think this drill is more geared to an electromagnetic pulse caused outage, or an attack on the grid system, which could cause enormous damage.

"The grid is essential for almost everything, but it is mostly controlled by investor-owned companies or municipal or regional agencies."
"5,800 major power plants and 450,000 miles of high-voltage transmission lines, monitored and controlled by a staggering mix of devices installed over decades."
