If anyone in Douglas or Josephine counties is looking for a good, fun range and active gun club, look into South Umpqua Rod & Gun Club in Canyonville. Very friendly group. In the last few years, the improvements/changes have been dramatic. Pistol, Rifle and 50-yard combination ranges are enclosed on three sides. The pistol range has electric target retrieval systems. The rifle range features sight-in to 100yds, and gong targets ranging between 200 and 435 yards. The 50-yard combination range has a wood stove for cold weather fun. There's a newly-completed combat pistol course, and plans for an archery range. There are shoots virtually every weekend, including cowboy, defensive pistol, combat pistol, 3-gun, and the ever-popular blind 50/50 (you're shooting at a blank piece of paper, any gun, any distance up to 50 yards...the scoring is on the back side...winner gets half the pot). Membership is reasonable (about $50/year per household), and the facilities are open (no fees for members, $5 a day for non-members) 7 days a week during daylight hours (with the occasional closure of one range or another for repair and maintenance, announced on the website, via e-mail, and in the newsletter whenever possible). The atmosphere is very relaxed...not a bunch of intrusive rules. But if you're doing something unsafe, or stupid, you'll probably get an earful. In short, it's a good range, a good club, and a lot of fun. Hope to see some of you there. For more information, http://www.surgc.org/
