    Rossi Overland 12ga from mom

This the other gun I rescued from rust. Mom gave it to me over my stepdads objections. I just don't know why he didn't care for any of his guns.
Anyway, the shotgun is a SxS with 20" barrels and exposed hammers controlled by twin triggers. The barrels were in the worst condition, and I gave up on oiled 0000 steel wool. I went to oiled 1000 grit sandpaper to get the heaviest rust off. There was some very light rust on the locking block, hammers and trigger guard the came off easily. The action is very tight, the wood looks good. The forearm is a bear to get off, but I doubt if I will need to for a long tine. I'm going to start shooting with Aguilas little shot shells, and see if the wife will come with me. Then I think I will try Winchester light target load shells. It seems like a well built gun, and the barrels are marked Modified and Improved Cylinder. One barrel is marked 12 gauge 3". I'm not much of a shotgun guy but this one looks like fun.

I am jealous, that looks like a nice shotgun. This is meant in all seriousness. Maybe the light coat of rust and then you cleaning it off made it look even better. I think it has a patina now that they did not have when they were new that is for sure. Maybe I think that because most SxS rabbit ear shotguns already have had a light coat of rust at sometime. Then they get cleaned up like you did.
So it now looks NORMAL for 2016.
If I had that shotgun it would go in my canoe camping bag

You are very lucky to get that before some other relative snatched it and spray painted it with Rust Oleum Gloss black

We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union

Nice job on the shotgun - I like the old side by sides (coach style) with the twin cocking hammers.
