    Deer Everywhere - Anyone Hunting?

Went out back late yesterday, just before dark, and had at least 15 deer in 3 groups 75-100 yards from me. It is hunting season, but they just stood there
and did not run off when I walked out across the yard to shut the chickens up. Likely more farther out, but I did not have my glasses on.

I have not had time up to now to even think about hunting, but I have a nephew that has never gotten one I would like to setup. The season will close
soon, but open up again for 4 days around Christmas (Christmas hunt), maybe then.

Anyone having any luck or even hunting?

Even though it is gun season here in OH, there are too many careless people in the woods for my taste, so I don't go out during gun season anymore. And a lease / permit for privately owned land is so expensive that I would not enjoy the hunt anymore ;-)

So far I'm a no go this year, but I haven't been out for gun season yet.

That is what i miss about home (Missouri). Deer would walk up behind the house and have a lunch out of the dog bowls. Where i settled in at now, you have to pay thousands of dollars to hunt on other peoples land every year. No public hunting land for us poor people. That first deer will never be forgotten. Hope the nephew bags one this year. Roger.

Got home from work this morning, Sat out on the deck for a smoke and a cup of coffee. I saw 6 of them in the back yard. Also a couple of turkeys. But I haven`t been hunting since 1995 when I got out of service. Just was not the same for me.

It has been several years since I have shot one. We love deer jerky, but they only make it from hind quarters. I am not fond of the rest of the meat, well maybe the back strap a little.
I had the meat processed and packaged and could not give it away. I am not going to shoot a deer and let it go to waste. Also with them walking through the yard and even going
into my barn looking for chicken feed (LOL) it got too easy - did not seem like hunting anymore. That said they do need to be thinned out - there are too many of them.

Send them my way. Saw only 2 does and a fawn during bow season.
