the concrete guys LOVE to do a big pad out in the open where they can just dump & hump...

sad story for you: when the guys came & did my floor here last fall..... building was already built & it went bad from start to finish for those guys..

    1. huge delay in between trucks showing up.. so they were fighting a cold shoulder in the pour the whole time. (why they didnt put a board in & make it 2 pours? i dunno)

    2. they didnt bring enough people for the pour in either stage.

    3. they did a lousy job on top of #1 & #2 (yes they were pro's who do this everyday) floor is like a roller coaster!

    4. it wasnt even good concrete after it cured!! (its near 8" thick & is cracking everywhere!!)

that was the first time ive ever had a bad concrete job around me.... even when we did our own when i was young.... never had a bad experience like that... so now im gonna give it 1 more winter to see how much ground heave does any more cracking & moving. THEN im gonna put a couple inches of epoxy leveler on top of the whole thing. YES i'll be doing that one myself.

there ya go BS... if ya think you are having an off day in this construction look back to this post & then smile cause YOURS is going how it should!

The pad was filled with 120,000 lbs (60 tons) of 3/4" crushed rock base. I was impressed when that concrete truck backed on the pad it did not even make a dent in that rock base/fill. Pour
was continuous when one pulled out the other backed in. Another thing that helps is the place/ground where I put the building is on slate/flint rock. I would be really disappointed if the pad
    cracked.

That's nice. I don't think the pad is going anywhere.

in your part of the country ... maybe it wont.

here in the east/central? the ground moves so much season to season that almost every pad cracks.

like you, i had at least 6-8" of crusher run that had been down for 4 years before we moved in & then we compacted on top of that... PLUS i went with the extra strong mix with fiber & the whole rig a ma row.... it should have worked out to be good for 6,000 psi mix & the slump cone was perfect.

so i dont know if it was crappy concrete coupled with getting a crappy job... or if it was a combination of a crappy job with my luck ran out.

any way it went: ended up with a bad job, bad floor & a very unhappy wife who wanted my floor to be good enough to put tile on.

YOU look like your getting a fine job on YOURS!

Did not expect them out until middle of next week, but part of his crew came by and got it started. Rain/lightening drove them off -

That is going to be an awesome shop. It looks like it will go up quick. I would love to be able to have something like this.
