Which finish to use for old mauser stock

I am ready to put a good strong finish on a mauser stock. Looking for opinions on which finish to use. I have steel whooled it with soapy water to get all the junk off. Bleached the stock to get as much of the black stains out. Now ready for a finish. Roger.

Will the tru-oil darken the wood on its own without the the stain. I prefer not to darken it with stain. Roger.

I used Minwax tung oil on my last one and it came out pretty good. Here's a comparison of some of the different finishes: http://sparetimeactivities.net/StockOils.htm

True oil does have a little amber color to it. Much like all the others. Maybe just a touch darker. I did a stock I made for a 91/30 Mosin out of Red Oak with nothing but True Oil. I will repost a pic when I get home.

There is only one stock finish and that is BLO, everything else is for wood floors or furniture! LOL

Agree Minwax Tung oil is outstanding. It is a nice natural finish and it is tough.
Not indestructible, but very tough and easy to refinish in the future.

Ok, I desided to go with the minwax tung oil. It was what i could get. Lind seed oil was not available at my local hardware store. Im on the second coat and still have some dry area's on the stock where the oil has really soaked in. Im guessing about 10 coats to get it where i want it. Thanks for all the advice. Roger.
