Reloading 7.62 NATO brass for a CETME

I've been reloading for a number of years with commerical
brass , never worked NATO brass , I want to reload for my
CETME any suggestions were to buy , say like 500 NATO
cases ? I assume that they are boxer primed , what would be
the correct powder for the CETME ? I use IMR 4064 for my
Garand and military bolt actions , any input appreciated

IMR 4064 will work just fine in the nato brass. The thing about 7.62 is the volume of the case is a little less than 308 because of the case walls being thicker than 308. I think the last rounds I loaded in Lake City brass I used 42 grains of 4064 with 149 gr FMJ pill. I haven't looked for brass in a long time. Haven't had the need to. Check with Pat's reloading and places like that on the web for brass and bullets.

If you are buying new brass, it will probably be boxer primed. If you are buying surplus brass from other shooters/reloaders, then you have to watch the headstamps. A lot of 7.62 NATO brass is berdan primed. US made stuff is usually boxer, but the Europeans liked berdan better - Hirtenberger usually being the notable exception to that rule.

The Cast Boolits forum used to be a great place to find virtually any kind of brass for sale. I haven't checked in there in a long time though.

If you have a C&R send a copy to Graffs and they will set you up for dealer pricing too.

I use 44.5gr of Varget under 168gr SMK bullets in my target Cetme.

will a 308 set work ? and will the flute impressions on spent
brass be a problem , hoping to get 4 or 5 reloads per case , I
don't plan to make hot or maximum powder charges

I have not seen a 7.62x51 die set but I will not step out there and say there is not one. I know a 308 set will work it is what I have all ways used. The marks from the chamber clean up and look better after the cleaning and re sizing only to return the next time the round is fired. Four or five reloads should not be a problem as long as you have a way to catch the brass.

Here is a pic of some cheap MKE brass after it's 4th firing. I think those cases are on their 6th cycle now being fired exclusively through my home build Cetme.

My rifle hates the Sierra TMK bullets.
