    Type 99

Took some time today to actually check this rifle out. I had gotten it from local estate sale many years ago, family members took what they wanted, but did not
    want the rifle.

Type 99, told today it was Kokura series 23, maybe early 1943 rifle. Has the chrome lined bore and chromed bolt face, all matching including dust cover.
Also has AA wings, cleaning rod and and importantly an intact mum. No monopod, but told they started phasing them (and the dust cover) out around the time it
was made. I am told a matching dust cover is lucky find. It is serialized to rifle.

Rifle in nice shape with usual dings on stock. Bluing and rifling look very good. Also came with a shorten bayonet. I did not see it before I bought it and left a low
bid on it over phone, so think I got lucky on it.

Nice Mum on that one. I'm just not to sure about them. I have passed on a few in the past couple of months, all of them had ground off mums or have been sporterized though.

Buck that is a nice example. You can see the markings very clearly and stock has that unique Orange/Red color.
    Very cool
They are fascinating rifles and definitely had an unfair poor reputation attached to them.
I had one with the Ground mum no dust cover, but with the AA sights and mono-pod
I did not appreciate Japanese small arms at the time and traded it away.

Have a question, since mine did not have the dust cover. Does your rifle's dust cover rattle or is that a myth?
We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union

Mine fits pretty tight and does not noticeably rattle, but I can easily see where they could get loose with use over time, or even get jammed by dirt, debris in the slide grooves.

Very nice! I didn't know the dust covers were numbered. I bought a repro cover for my 99. It doesn't rattle, but I can see mud making it tough to work the bolt.

Looking at discussion on Japanese rifle board and many were saying finding a rifle with matching dust cover is much harder than finding a rifle with a mum. The dust cover has the last 3 digits of
the serial number stamp on rear rim.

Sounds like you have a really nice rare one. What caliber is this one? Have you shot it yet?

Type 99 are 7.7 Jap. New production ammo is a little pricey and sometimes hard to find. I keep hoping privi partizan would start making some.
