    My Backyard Deer

Been having big herds of deer in the fields around house - they are often very close and rarely run off when they see me. This grown doe seems
to have taken it one step further and now beds down inside my fenced backyard. Several times the last week I have walked around a building right
into her. I know they need to be thinned, but shooting fish in a barrel is just hard for me to do.

Same here, my wife names and feeds all of the wildlife. After that I can't do anything about the "pets". Lol

My wife names them "dinner." I don't have much I can get out the backdoor as we live in town, but there's not much for squirrels or rabbits here now. If I practice with my bow I can do the city bowhunt in my backyard.

My sister and BIL have about 2doz. they feed in their front yard just outside New Braunfels. I love to watch them getting after the corn and just about anything else edible. Deer are one of nature's garbage disposals.
I quit shooting them over forty years ago....Still really enjoy watching them though.

I am not sure why this doe hangs out in yard? A couple of years ago I had a young set of twins. likely lost their mother, hang out in backyard or around house, for several weeks.
I am not feeding her, so maybe she just feels more protected here?

Could well be that she feels more secure. At the housing around work we often see large herds of deer & elk. They know that the hunters don't hunt within sight of the housing and other buildings. I think that other large predators are less inclined to bother them near housing too - a lot of us like watching the deer, but might just take a shot at a big cat!
