    Israeli K98

Israeli K98 I got out today. As you can see the receiver has been scrubbed of most all German stamps and then re-stamped with Israeli crest, etc.. The 7.62 conversion was done for Israel by
FN, Herstal, Belgium. The rifle would have been first used by Israel in original 8mm, The 7.62 NATO round was not developed until late 50s. Interesting rifle with interesting history

That is very cool! I have never seen one before. I need to find one. A K98 Mauser in 7.62 would be awesome!

Edit : None listed on GB. I'm assuming these are hard to find.

Over the years I have seen two for sale in a big local gun shop. I bought the first one (above), the 2nd one I saw much latter was much rougher so I passed.
If it happen today I would have bought it, but back then there was more milsurps on the shelf and others I wanted. I don't think they are common, but probably
not in the super rare category either. It is kind of interesting how after WW2 the Palestine Jews smuggled in WW2 German weapons, to include a few German fighter
planes, to defend themselves. The crest on the weapon is the IDF crest--

That's a nice looking rifle. I remember seeing those around ten or twelve years ago. J&G and all the dealers had some. The ones I remember never looked that good. Your LGS must have gotten in on the ground floor when there were some nice ones to be had. Thanks for the pics as all ways. If you keep this up I'll have plenty to look at in my spare time.
