With an exposed barrel pin it makes more sense to just remove it and press the barrel through. Anybody can do it with a long press and the right extension. The welds look pretty good but even if you didn't want to sit on them you'd just make a cup to rest against the inner face of the trunnion. Not a big deal to change barrels on these things.

Nice! Loving that Hensoldt HK scope on there. I need to get one of those.

Edit: Does anyone make a reproduction scope for this?

I found mine which included the mount for $400 on eBay, pretty good deal. Good deals are out there

Yeah, I've been looking around. I'm looking at one right now that is going for $500 but that is a bit out of my range.

In Europe they are relatively common, from 380 to more than 500 euros on average. From lightly scratched exterior, no accesories, to almost unissued (never seen one without the mount). You need to search a lot to find a good one.

I own a Karl Kaps (slightly worn-out), and a later Fero by Hendsoldt (looks mostly new, with some rust specs in the mount, plus extras like the lens filter). Tried to sell one for 300 (a bad moment) but found no buyers, so I got to keep it in the end.

The problem you'll probably have is the same I have when I want to buy something from the US... shipping can be expensive across the pond.
