    Tick Season

Been super sick since Monday, by Thursday I had dropped 12 lbs as I could not take any food in and on small amounts of fluids. V.A. admitted me for exam, numerous tests
and scan. IV to get hydrated. Preliminary diagnosis is Tick Disease, likely Lyme's. On nausea meds and antibiotics now, but I am at home.

Been around ticks for a long time in the country -I guess it caught up to me. Take some precautions when going into tick woods or fields.
    This is brutal.

Sorry to hear about this Buck. In my line of work, being in the woods and right of ways for years it was something we almost took for granted until we learned about the modern research going on and just had bad it can be. Get well soon. Until then we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

wondered why you hadnt been posting much.....

man ticks are so heavy where we live, you just figure that we all have lyme or tick fever.

been keeping a separate set of clothes for the brush & bush hogging that has a spray on it thats good for 30+ days or 7 washes.. permethyin? (sp)

& i spray 20' around the house/shop/barn & then the entire trail path. a single bite from any tick & my wife will have a place for MONTHS.

Got sick from one of the little buggers biting me many years ago and hope to never have the displeasure again. Take care of yourself, give the hard head a break and follow the doctors orders.
Perhaps a couple of good rust-check sessions could provide additional recuperative powers, and at a minimum of 1ea. ice cold brew and no more than 2 per day.

Hope you're up and back to normal soon.

Yea, I am struggling right now - nausea is the worse part of it. Yea, we are getting older. Another remember for me is I had a hearing test before this happen as I knew I could not hear
some high pitch noises and understanding people on phone or if there was any background noise around. Turns out I had moderate to severe hearing loss in high pitch range where speech normally is.
V.A. ordered me hearing aides for both ears (LOL). They asked me if I had ever been around tractors, chainsaws, firearms, so on. I said I am retired from the military and own a farm
    - what do you think?

Appreciate all ur thoughts. I will eventually get over it. Just wanted you all to think about using some protection if you venture out into tick country. I suppose the huge deer
population I have has not help with the tick problem.

BTW this morning found something had climbed over a 6 foot chicken wire fence, opened a braced flap side door to my chicken house and killed some chickens. Rains it pours (LOL)

Had a part time job while in college working as assistant to a professor doing a study on the spread of lyme and rocky mountain spotted fever. Used radioactive glucose injected in pregnant females and resulting babies were "glow in the dark". Released them on a large farm and trapped birds and small mammals and removed any ticks. We knew where they were released and the trapping location for any hot ones. Amazing how far many of them traveled. Learned a lot about the disease and it's spread. Hope you recover quickly and get back 100%, I know it's no fun.

I hope you get better soon. It sucks to get sick, especially as you get along in age. I'm finding it becomes harder to heal up as I get older.
