    Deer Season

After not hunting for some years and now being over run with deer we decided to take a few this year. I missed the property owners hunt, but
modern gun season opens a week from now. Bow season has been open. Arkansas has changed to where you can take pretty much anything
you want up to 6 deer. Restriction on does or having 6 or more points on bucks is history. No more deer check in, but still suppose to tag
them. Purchase hunting license now online and just print it out with 6 deer tags.

Letting a young husband and wife team that only bow hunt, and can use the meat, hunt on a couple of my stands on weekends. The wife took a buck
last weekend. Found 2 out of 3 of my old stands were in good condition (1 is a 2 person stand), just need re-strapped. I don't need a stand
myself for modern gun. Deer are everywhere just walk outside in evening and scan the fields around house and there will be deer within
    easy range.

Spent some time yesterday with my younger (hay) partner and his 9 year old son teaching the boy gun safety and how to use my 30-30 rifle.
He should do fine. 2 day youth hunt this weekend, so his Dad will take him up in 2 person stand and hopefully he will get his first deer.

My partner took his son up to big stand yesterday evening just to get the boy use to it and watch the deer. No guns with them. He sent
me this picture, not a great one (smaller deer), but deer are moving very close to stand so feel pretty good about the boy getting one.

Young guy got a small buck and doe tonight out of stand above my house with crossbow. Said he could have shot at least one more, but did not want to be greedy (LOL)
Glad for them as they can use the meat. Both went down next to each other and did not make it far.

BTW had a two Bucks 10 and 12 pt with doe staring me down earlier today heading back to my brothers place which is next to me.

That's crazy. I put 80 hours in my stand last year without even seeing 1. Saw plenty of wolves which explains the lack of deer.

Your friends 9 year old looks like he'll have a good chance. Nothing like nice weather and an abundance of deer to get a kid hooked.

Nice of you to let them all hunt on your land. Here in SW Ohio, unless you have your own property, it is not that much fun anymore. During bow season, public land is not over-run, but during the few days of gun season, there are so many idiots in the field that shoot at anything that moves, that I decided years ago not to go anymore. I haven't seen a lot of deer in our area either - normally they are all over the place in our neighborhood, making our dogs go crazy and jump the fence, but not so much this year...

That is kind of wild (LOL). Two in one day is about my limit on how many I would want to field dress and process at one time. Actually all I want is some
deer jerky so one will likely do me. Let the others have fun and get some. My hay partner is a full time fireman. Works those 24hr shifts and wants to
take some meat to fire station for the "boys" to use (cook up) there.

BTW I know we have had bear come thru here in past, but appears we now have resident bear. Been seeing signs of them in several places.
Bear hunt is over, but they said folks had a lot of luck in NW Ark this year and quickly maxed out the total allowed to be taken.

Well, my farming partner's son, 9 year old Casey got his first deer tonight. Had to track him a ways, but he got him.
