Only in pictures have I seen these earlier mags. Just as HK was getting started they utilized some parts off of the CETME as well as making some design changes.
The CETME 20 round mag was curved with two stiffening ribs running vertically and had two tear drop stops that butted against the bottom of the mag well.

Some of the earliest HK mags were similar in appearance to the CETME with the two stiffening ribs but they were straight and now incorporated two or three rectangular stops. These mags were prior to 59 in what I refer to as the CETME/HK transition period 56-58.

Photo of an illustration from a book I have called Waffen Revue.
The magazine is notably the same as above with the exception of the feed lip area that inserts into the mag well. It has taken on a familiar, heavily rubbed, look that we see on all the G3 mags today.

I am liking this thread very much.

SO! I was thinking if we as a group could put together a thread with a picture of all the different mags. Month/year, Manufacture, Steel/Alum, etc.
I don't know how to do it, but I can take pictures of some of mine and post them and if everyone posted a picture of the ones they have maybe as a group we would have most of them.

But, We would need someone to take the lead on this.

Who is up to do this?

    Just a thought...…….

    Good idea! Any volunteers?

A pic of a two piece 30 rounder said to be made by PTR. I think the HK made ones were two welded together as well? Not sure yet.
