    Forming MAC 10/45 Lower Receiver

I've had an interest in the MAC 10/45 Semi Auto clones of late. The following photos show the press die-set I made to form the lower receivers.

Photo 1 shows the cavity die assembled on a 3/4 in. thick piece of mild steel plate.
Photo 2 shows the mandrell/punch made from two pieces of 3 in. x 1/4 in. mild steel channel. Not shown in this photo is a rectangular 1/4 in. thick bar that 'sandwiches' the flat, and bolts through the flat to the underside of the mandrel to guide the mandrel into the cavity die.
This guide bar can be seen in Photo 6.
Photo 3 shows the parts and flat assembled together.
Photos 4 & 5 show the forming of the receiver flat in a HF 20T hydraulic press.
Photo 6 shows the forming of the flat completed. The mentioned guide bar can be seen bolted to the underside of the mandrel. This bar also helps keep the bottom of the flat from 'bowing' downward during the press and prevents 'rounding' of the bottom of the receiver.
Photo 7 with the Velocity Firearms upper receiver in place to check the fit.

NOTE: All dimensions for the lower receiver [and thus the die set] were taken from the PDF file titled 'MACHINIST DRAWINGS FOR SUB-MACHINE GUN FRAMES MAC-10' , as well as the other parts obtained from Velocity Firearms.

That looks like some heavy gauge steel. Great job on the bending jig!

Thanks! The lower receiver specs call for 12 ga. [.1046 in.] cold rolled steel. Nothing special. No requirement for heat treatment either. I layout the dimensions on the sheet, cut it out on the bandsaw. Press it. Square it up. Tack weld the top tab, then trim the edges to final dimensions in the mill.

Yes. This one, and a second in carbine format....and possibly a third?
