    Yugo M64 reweld

So I haven't posted anything in ages. Figured I'd share this.

Started this a almost two months ago while quarantined with the beer virus. Which is very not fun, but doing much better now.

I'm a fiend for a Yugoslavian ak. I've had & built many over the years. But never one of the M64 model. Started the search for the appropriate kit. Didnt really want an under folder, as they're much more common. I wanted a fixed stock.

Ended up scoring a kit for reasonable money considering what kits can go for these days.

I used to do quite a few rewelds back in the day. Ya know, when kits with factory barrels were cheap. So this project wasnt new territory for me. Just been a minute.

I'll let the pictures do most the talking. But first things first, stay legal. Weld up the rock & roll hole & auto sear slot in the rail before cutting or welding anything else. No point in going to prison.

I use a mag to set the dimensions for the front stub and next section.

Then it's a matter of filling in the peices. Be patient and go slow. Trim & test fit. Trim & test fit. It's really repetitive. I half tig welded & half mig welded this. Used brass backing plates.

Now I've got a lot more than I used to back when. I still do most finish work with hand files. But I did make use of...... my surface grinder. Made this so much simpler, I almost feel like its cheating.

This is where I'm at. Just gotta drill the gas port, drop in the trigger, & refinish.
