I recall when I was station at Ft. Stewart, a trailer park blew up causing several deaths and damage.........the culprit some trailer park hilljacks decided it was a good idea to go on post, Stewart was a open post, and find some unexploded artillery shells and take it back to their trailer.

even with PSA warning people to stay clear away from a impact area and not to bring out unexploded ordnance

next up on the democratic agenda; closing the ghost grenade loophole.

maybe somebody messing around and trying to reactivate it with some reloading powder. usually demilled ordnance has a large hole drilled in somewhere. but that wouldn't make sensational headlines.

I lived in Berlin in the 70's, most bombed, shelled, city in the world.

You would never know what would turn up.

Supposedly, they were not drilled or deactivated, but live grenades. Several of them. They are still missing a couple they sold. How did this happen?

it happens. it just does. its just usually not over here.

you will hear a lot about this one in particular & of course they will try to use it to end dummy sales.

wouldnt surprise me if they come after my flash bangs for airsoft now too.

I can tell you one way it can happen, a vet brought home a souvenir from the war....... he dies some relative sells it, not knowing it's live.

happen to a Army buddy of mine, he was the NCOIC of the 1st Cav Div. museum he receives package in the mail from a wife of a deceased vet who who was in that division during WW2, she figures the div. would want his souvenir from the war.......it was live jap hand grenades, he take it outside then calls EOD to take it

there are probably all sorts of live grenades, mortar shells etc.... and other live ordnance in attics, basement etc........ of vet who took them home, then dies and a relative finds it, not know it's live

I'm guessing a WWII vet brought it back, then as time went on and he passed his family donated it not knowing it was live, then it got sold as so many deactivated ordinance is. Sucks but people need to carefully inspect items like this.
