Welcome aboard! LOTTA good Ge/CETME and related knowledge here.

Never built one myself, but several folk here have. I'm sure one will check in and steer you in the right direction shortly.

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other. - John Adams, 2nd U.S. President -

Put your hand guard in place against the trunnion and pin it to the cocking tube. Then slide the front triple frame down until there is just enough space for you to pivot the hand guard out after you pull the pin.

If you're using an HK barrel it will have splines that the triple slide over. Choose the best spline position so that the front sight is aligned with the rear sight. I usually tie a string to the front sight post and pull the string tight back in the rear sight groove. You can then look at the string along the top of the cocking tube and receiver to see if it looks centered.
