The crack started at the upper rear side of the pin and was angled towards the top of the frame. It looked very much just like a scratch and that's what I thought it was at first. A local gunsmith checked it with some penetration testing dye and confirmed it was an actual crack. No huge loss, it was non numbers matching and I didn't have a lot invested in it. But I did learn a valuable lesson from it: On older firearms if there's even an ounce of doubt about springs replace the darn things.
