    AR Carbine?

I was looking at a DPMS carbine that uses rifle handguards and has the rifle sight radis. Bushmaster makes one also. Does anyone have experience with these?

I've heard they run better and shoot more accurately due to the long sight radius and the longer gas system.

If you like the looks of short barrel long forend, I say go for it.

i've not shot one but I have held one. to me it's the best of both worlds. you have the short barrel of the carbine, and the longer sight radius/gas system of the full sized rifle. part of me wishes I had picked one of those up instead of my carbine.

if you like it, I say go for it

These things use carbine gas systems, they just have rifle length handguards.

Mid length gas systems use different handguards than carbines or rifles.

For a casual plinker, Bushmaster or DPMS should be ok.

For a serious social rifle, I'd aim a little higher.

They increase your sight radius. Pointless if you are gonna mount optics though.

Sounds like you are wanting the old school carbine look. Some one here built one.

Thanks guys. No optics, my eyes are still ok for iron sights. Of course they would be useful for low light situations. I've asked on a couple forums but nobody has fired one.

Very similar to the full length AR as far as recoil. Your Gas system is the same, only the length of your barrel is different, obviously. Shorter barrel means more recoil, but given the dimunitive .223, recoil isn't really an issue, anyway. All you really get is the sound of that recoil spring in your ear... Boing...boing boing... Boing boing boing boing...

I'm not sure where all the reservations about Bushmaster come from. I've owned several and still own two. All of them have been more accurate than the stuff I carried in the military and absolutely reliable. I shot Colts and Bushmasters side-by-side for years, and the Colts weren't any better.
