anyone built a suomi yet? i bought a kit with intact front and rear fillers. I was just wondering how hard of a build it is. I have yet to find a step by step instructions set yet.

Well, you're a lucky guy to get a kit with intact fillers. Go to weaponeer, find the thread for the cd on building a Suomi. Guy's name is clark. Tell him trenches sent you. He has a website also where you can order it and a striker assembly.
I'm waiting for my modified bolt so I can finish my Suomi. Be aware that this build is not for someone with a high discouragement level. It can be a labor intensive project. Magwell is probably the trickiest part to get right. Prexis has a reduced ID receiver, and a modified bolt is available. Also one of the guys, Tommerr, has an ATF approved barrel dismount system. He did mine and the work is outstanding. Lot's of good info over at weaponeer.
I think turbothis has built one. You could ask him.
i would like to pay someone to do as much of the work as possible, i dont have many tools but want to get one before its too late (after the next election)
dont bother going to weaponeer for that CD... Gregs & Mikes stuff is no longer available there.
go here for it..
ive built 2 soumi's, but didnt use GClarks version.
there is absolutely nothing wrong with his version! its just a newer approach.
the original approach was this:
AR FCG on Dan Diesel plates into the soumi lower with a Prexis replacment tube and a new US made prexis bolt (all in reduced ID) then do your barrel extension or buy the longer barrel and altar your shroud.
pretty straight forward build now days if you have the time and money to put in.
when we first started doing the soumi's they were a very very difficult build for the average builder.
with all the improvements now days if you have moderate skills and tools you can do it.
we have 2 different build threads on it and here are links to them and GClarks CD.
you cant go wrong with GClarks set up or the original set up.
but this is not building an AK/AR type of rifle... it will take time.

if you have any questions just let me know...

i pressed a steel tube into my receiver peices and welded up the cuts. this keeps it true and makes filling the gap very fast work. and provides a reduced i.d.

absolutely!! this works very well if your staying with the original ID!
then you will need to insert a blocking rail or blocking pins to keep the guberment happy.
this will also not help you on your parts count, but it is a very viable method of building a soumi if you have a good front and rear filler.
oh and of course if your gonna hack the stock off of it and do it as a pistol then you dont have to worry about the 922r stuff...
say what you mean & mean what you say!
my steel tube is permenantly welded to the old receiver peices. thats the reduced i.d.........
the rewelded receiver is a us part. it is scrap until built again.

very clever bub!! to leave the tub welded to it.... we just used them for a "stiffener" and then removed them and added a blocking rail.
unfortunately the "letter" on the soumi build says that if you reweld receiver pieces they are still a considered foriegn part..
we found this out during the submissions process on "how much work do you have to do to a bolt or receiver before you can call it US made"... the answer that GClark got is: "it cant be a US made part if it was made somewhere else originally"
thats why the altered bolts fell by the wayside and Prexis started making complete bolts.
maybe you can get around that by calling the tube you inserted the "receiver" and the pieces on the outside add-ons??

sure it would be cosmetic only! the sleeve is the body.

thats VERY VERY cool on your part and quite the original thought process....
im thinking seriously about borrowing that idea if you dont mind??
