    G/K43 VS M1 Garand/M14

After reading an article about select fire G43's and M1 Garands with 20 round detachable magazines, I started thinking they could match against each other.

M1 Garand/M14 hands down. The G43/K43, while an interesting rifle, is not anywhere near the rifle the Garand is, and it suffers from parts breakage pretty reguarly.

M1 Garand because I can repair anything that breaks! Heck, I can (and do) build them up from parts. "It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!"

Come on, the Garand is the finest battle rifle ever created, hands down. You have to look at the rifle itself, as well as it's comparison to the rifles carried by the enemy at the time. The Garand outgunned the Germans, Japanese and the North Koreans who carried mostly bolt action rifles AND the Chinese who, many of which, carried the SKS, which, though it carried two more rounds than the Garand, could NOT match the range and accuracy of a rifle that was designed to compete with bolt action rifles in the same category.

    G43 vs M1

I know many will call me wrong, but having owned a number of G43's and two M1's, as originally built I go with the M1. BUT, if some one were to build a G43 today with well made parts, I believe it would be much better than a M1. The G43 has its receiver enclosed to keep out dirt. It has a detachable and stripper clip loaded mag. It is much easier to take apart and clean. It is more accurate. Don't believe this, put a G43 against an M1 and see what happens. Why do you think almost all G43s had a scope mount? I could go on here, but I think I have already started a bad argument. I am going to look at the G43 I still have my uncle brought back and try and figure out where to find a stock for it. Just adding my 2 pfennings here.

    Full auto M1

As an aside to this argument, and Cutaway talking about auto M1s, I was given a 11 dvd set titled "The World at War" put together by A&E. On one disk about the Pacific War there is a GI firing an M1 that is clearly firing in full auto. I have watched this over and over and it truly is fully automatic. He must have worked it himself.

Can you post a link to the article?

I thought the combat record of the G43 showed it lacking compared to Garand in the semi auto mode. As a select fire weapon I would assume the G43s stamped wartime production parts would wear out faster than the Garands. I would like to see a shoot off comparing the Garand, G43, STV 40 vs the FN 49. I know there was a Select fire version for that rifle (I don't know why)
